Birdies and tomatos...

Remember a little while ago when I said that birds are loving my hanging baskets? Well, we've had more births! :-)What started as 4 little eggs...

... turned into 4 precious babies!!! Rhyan was THRILLED!

And its a good thing that some things are growing well around here, because our garden is C.R.A.P. ;-(

Not a nice way to put it, but i'm uber frustrated. We planted lots of tomato plants this year in hopes of having lots of tomato's to can. And instead, we've got wilted plants, white tomato's (from the heat) and half eaten tomatos (thanks alot, rabbits and rats. YUCK!)

But before the 100 degree days, there were a few nice tomato's that Jeff got to enjoy!

Jeff's Garden!

Frugal Farmer Jeff is at it again :-) Growing a garden! He does a great job each year tending to his garden each night, taking time to water all of the plants. He actually collects water from our air conditioner condensation run off. He gets between 5-7 gallons per day! The upside is the obvious... water conservation. The downside? To be getting that amount of water each day, we are running the air conditioner a lot! (b/c its hot, not because we're running it to get the water.)

Cant wait to start reaping the harvest. Rhyan, in particular, loooooooves squash casserole! We enjoyed our 1st of the season this past week and ate it up! And she'll eat a whole cucumber if you let her dip it in ranch (yum! girl has good taste!). I'm very much looking forward to putting up more tomato's this year for soups this winter.

Jeff's Garden!

Farmer Jeff is at it again :-)

He planted Rye grass in the winter to fertilize the soil and then it just dies off when you plow up the ground. We'll see how well that works for the plants this year. My uncle, Bobby, is the one who Jeff takes his P's and Q's from in regards to gardening and this was one of his suggestions. Bobby has a FABULOUS (yummy and beautiful) garden each year so we trust him :-)

This year Jeff planted yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, okra and tomato's.
I dont know what this is :-) But whatever it is, its growing!

I think this is a tomato plant? I just know that we are OUT of the tomato's that I canned last season and w/o them we cant have veggie soup or chili! So i'm hoping we get a GOOD crop this year! I put up 16 quarts last year and plan to try for 25 this year.

Things are growing nicely! Of course, Jeff planted all of this and then BOOM, no rain. Luckily, our sprinkler system comes in quite handy for his garden :-)
