An early start to the morning, as always! And Jeff had already done a 1 hour bike ride, completed by 7am! He's such an early bird. Blech. ;-)
Jeff and I had decided the night before to change it up a little bit... so we took the kids to see the Civil War Fort (which just happens to be, literally, in our "backyard"), Fort Clinch.
It was built in 1864 or something and was pretty neat. I mean, nothing to get all giddy over. Unless you're a history enthusiast, i guess. For us, it was a good place to visit. There were bunkers set up for soldiers, latrines, "mess hall", and these really long tunnels that led to what looked like a place to store ammunition or something. Lots of steep, winding steps, and cannons galore.
Gracious, this little girl makes me smile. I have very few pictures of her w/o her hand on her hip :-) Btw, her daddy was VERY concerned with her dress for the day. "Its more like a long shirt", he said. ;-) Oh, jeff, she's only 3. We'll make sure her tooshie is covered when she's 13. For now, let her be a baby!
Have I mentioned that my hubby is a dork? Yeah, he's pretending he's being arrested... :-)
One of the very tiny spiral staircases (i was looking down at it)
Gotta love the beautiful brick work!
Check out the cost of each item! wow. inflation is killing us! lol
I'm SO glad I dont have to get water this way (wow, understatement!)
We were hoping to grab lunch at pompeo's in downtown but it's only open for dinner. So we headed on back to the condo and grabbed lunch before naptime for the kids. We decided against hitting up the pool or beach because we were all a little too pink from the day before, which totally worked out because it ended up raining most of the afternoon! Great timing!
We decided to hit up the crab trap for dinner. Oh my word, it was so yummy! The boys both got crab legs. They had a $19.99 special where it was a mix of different kinds of crab legs (king, snow, etc) but still a pound of it. They were YUM! I got some shrimp and it was soooo good. I got the large plate, planning to take some back for lunch the next day. They may or may not have ended up getting eaten. I'd just rather not talk about it ;-)
I had let my camera battery die (TRAGIC!!!) but our waitress was kind enough to plug it in and charge it up during dinner! YAY! Jeff was thrilled, of course! lol.
But i was SO glad we did. Because we got these great family pics after dinner down by the marina!
It was a WONDERFUL finish to the evening. Mack wasnt in the greatest of moods (his molars were almost ready to poke through and as i've mentioned, he's not the greatest teether) so we didnt get too many of him, but we asked a nice guy to take our group pic and were so pleased to get a good one! The sunset was beautiful and we soaked it in for a few minutes.
We headed on back to the condo for our traditional icecream to "top off" the evening. Great ending!
